The truck driver and trucking company involved in the accident that collapsed a portion of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia earlier this week were operating under all proper authorities, the National Transportation Safety Board announced on Wednesday.
Truck driver Nathan Moody’s death was ruled an accident due to “blunt trauma of the head, inhalation and thermal injuries” by the medical examiner, reported the Courier Post. He was identified using dental records earlier this week.
Moody was driving for TK Transport, a subsidiary of Penn Tank Lines, at the time of the incident.
“At the time of the incident, Penn Tank Lines was in good operating status and has valid authority to be engaged in the type of transportation they were operating,” the NTSB said.
A Penn Tank Lines representative did not respond to requests for comment.
Moody’s relatives say the 53-year-old Army veteran drove trucks for the military, and described him as a safety-minded driver with plenty of experience. He worked the night shift and drove the same route every Sunday morning to deliver gas.
