A 16-year-old girl is dead after the van she was in crashed into the wheels of a semi truck.

The accident happened in Wayne Township, Ohio on Tuesday morning, May 30th at the intersection of SR-73 and Clarksville Road.

According to 9 ABC, the crash between a semi truck and van took the life of a 16-year-old passenger in the van and sent the 39-year-old female driver to the hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver was not hurt.

A preliminary investigation of the incident shows that the driver of the minivan ran a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into the rear wheels of the semi truck.

Nearby residents say that this isn’t the first time a serious wreck has occurred at the intersection.

“This is the third terrible accident I’ve seen here,” said a woman who heard the crash and called 911.

“People are distracted. They said she ran the stop sign… And I felt so bad for the truck driver.”
