Police in New York made an unusual drug bust on Monday after a truck struck an overpass.
On the afternoon of April 17, police were called to a Walmart parking lot in Fredonia, New York, by a truck driver.
The truck driver told police he struck an overpass on I-90 and pulled into the Walmart lot to assess the damage.
The driver climbed on top of the trailer and reportedly discovered packages of marijuana concealed in the roof of the trailer that were revealed by the damage from the bridge strike.
Fredonia Police reported a strong smell of marijuana in the air at the scene.
The marijuana packages were damaged by the bridge strike and some marijuana spilled out onto the parking lot as crews used a crane to remove the 750 pounds of drugs concealed in the roof of the trailer.
The truck driver injured his hand climbing on top of the trailer and was treated on the scene by the Fredonia Fire Department.
Multiple agencies are investigating the incident, including the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, the Fredonia Police Department, the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
