Oklahoma officials applauded news that Sam’s Club will invest $40 million to open a large distribution center in the state scheduled to open early next year.
The plan is for Sam’s Club (a division of Walmart Inc.) to launch a 300,000-square-foot, multipurpose distribution center in Oklahoma City at a new industrial area that is developing called OKC Logistics Park, which is located 2 miles south of Interstate 40. The industrial park is also just over a mile north of Oklahoma State Highway 152 and also near Will Rogers World Airport.
“Since Sam’s Club first opened in Oklahoma in 1983, Sam’s has been an important economic driver for our state,” said Gov. Kevin Stitt. “I am thrilled that partnership will continue as the company brings 130 long-term jobs to Oklahoma with this new distribution center.”
Walmart is the state’s largest employer and is responsible for more than 35,000 jobs across Oklahoma.
David Holt, mayor of Oklahoma City, said the new facility joins a growing distribution corridor in the southwestern part of the city.
“We are excited to extend our long-term partnership with Walmart and Sam’s Club to include this new distribution center,” Holt said. “Oklahoma City’s population continues to grow, and as both our city and the company expand, we look forward to working together.”
Joseph Godsey, senior vice president and chief supply chain officer of Sam’s Club, said the company is looking forward to enhancing its supply chain capabilities in Oklahoma.

“We are on a journey to transform the entire Sam’s Club supply chain through strategic expansion and cutting-edge automation. This investment will help us provide a better experience for our members in the speed and availability of our products,” Godsey added.
A description of OKC Logistics Park by Kansas-based commercial real estate firm Flint Development noted that the Oklahoma City site at 2400 S. Council Road is surrounded by companies such as Amazon, FedEx, Hobby Lobby and Walmart.
Flint Development said the industrial park will be developed in two phases. The first part will include two buildings totaling 1 million square feet on 58 acres, while the second phase will contain another pair of buildings (totaling 595,756 square feet) on 56 acres.
