NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Trova Commercial Vehicles on March 9 announced the launch of a battery-electric terminal tractor as its first product to hit the market.
Trova was founded in 2020 with a mission to accelerate development and market acceptance of battery-electric commercial vehicles. It has been field-testing products ever since, and introduced its terminal tractor during the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council’s 2025 Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition.
“We target specialty vehicles and new market segments,” Trova CEO Patrick Collignon said during a press event. “Since 2020 [we] started developing a proprietary rolling chassis concept — battery electric. We didn’t want to mess with hydrogen fuel cells; we wanted to go clean-cut battery electric, and obviously develop an innovative, state-of-the-art, high-voltage driveline solution. The first product to market is what we are launching here at TMC.”
Trova said the truck’s chassis is made from high-strength steel, and is designed to be modular for ease of maintenance. The truck is designed to support telematics standards and remote diagnostics, and has a patented battery pack installation setup and proprietary thermal management system.
“We’ve been looking for innovative elements — especially entering the market of terminal tractors, which has been quite stable,” Collignon said. He added that Trova followed what he described as a multi-stakeholder model with the truck’s development, bringing in industry partners during the process.
Longer term, Collignon said Trova could explore conversions of diesel-powered trucks to electric. “One of the new market segments that we will be focusing on is repowering of heavy-duty Class 8 trucks,” he said. “You bring in a Class 8 diesel truck, 48 hours late, you drive away with an electric truck. Those are our two product platforms that we have been developing.”
He noted that Trova recently founded a European division that is focused on these conversions, since demand in the region is higher. The U.S. market will be more focused on terminal tractors for the time being.
