A man stole a driver’s semi truck and iPad and was eventually arrested after threatening the driver, police say.
The incident started on Saturday, March 8th at approximately 6:00 p.m. in Barstow, California.
According to VVNG News, the driver contacted police after Erik Quiroz stole his semi truck with an iPad inside and started FaceTime the driver from the stolen iPad. Later that day, the truck driver located his semi truck abandoned in the 100 block of Crooks Street.
“The vehicle was recovered; however, the victim’s iPad was not found in it. Over the next few days, the victim began receiving threatening messages from Quiroz,” stated the Barstow Police Department in a written statement.
On March 12th, the truck driver was able to track his iPad using GPS and located it at the 1300 block of East Main Street. Officers arrived at the location and found Quiroz sitting in his car holding na iPad. Quiroz refused to exit the vehicle.
“After repeated attempts to de-escalate the situation, officers removed Quiroz from the vehicle. Once outside the vehicle, Quiroz continued to resist officers’ attempts to arrest him. After a brief struggle, Quiroz was taken into custody. One officer received a minor injury during the struggle with Quiroz,” stated the Barstow Police Department.
Quiroz was arrested and is facing charges of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, burglary, and resisting arrest with violence.
The iPad was returned to the truck driver.
