A driver turned himself in late last week after a warrant was issued for his arrest for a 2024 wreck that left another trucker dead.
The accident happened on February 29th, 2024 on Interstate 84 east near exit 72 in Union, Connecticut. The accused truck driver, 33-year-old James Desruisseaux, was arrested just last week on March 13th.
According to WFSB 3, Desruisseaux’s tractor trailer crossed into the right lane from the center lane, causing a collision with another tractor trailer driven by Carlos Vega. Vega then veered off of the roadway and into nearby Morey Pond, where his cab became submerged. Desruisseaux’s tractor trailer also veered into the pond and became partially submerged, but he was able to escape the truck cab on his own.
When officers arrived, they found Desruisseaux standing on the right shoulder of the highway. Vega was extricated from his submerged truck cab and was pronounced dead.
Desruisseaux told police that Vega had lost control of his truck and hit him first, but police reviewed dash cam footage from both semi trucks and determined that Desruisseaux’s tractor trailer crossed into Vega’s lane first, giving officers probable cause to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Desruisseaux turned himself in and was taken into custody. He has been charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to maintain a lane, and providing a false statement.
