Canadian police are investigating an overpass strike that occurred on Highway 99 on Wednesday.

According to BC Highway Patrol, the overpass strike was reported on March 19, 2025 at 9:45 a.m.

Officials say that a commercial tractor-trailer carrying a prefabricated home was southbound on Highway 99 when it struck the the Blundell Road overpass in Richmond, BC.

“A pilot vehicle that was following the tractor-trailer was damaged when the over-height load of lumber fell off the trailer and hit the pilot vehicle’s windshield,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “The tractor-trailer stopped at the scene. The driver and the company involved will be investigated.”

Early reports indicated that the truck was hauling lumber, but further investigation showed that the load was a house.

No injuries were reported.

BC Highway Patrol said that there was no visible damage to the overpass, but the structure will be inspected for safety.

BC transportation officials have recently taken several measures to curb overpass strikes, including amendments to the Commercial Transport Act (CTA) allowing for fines of up to $100,000 for an overpass strike with a commercial vehicle. The fines can also come with up to 18 months in prison upon conviction for violations.
