A truck driver was ejected and electrocuted after his oversize load made contact with a live power line overhead.
The accident happened in Sheridan County, Kansas on Kansas Highway 23 at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26th, 6 miles south of U.S. Highway 24 at Road 70 South.
According to KSN, a truck driver was hauling an oil derrick in on a 1979 Kenworth flatbed when he decided to turn right into a roadside ditch to give himself additional overhead clearance for the oversize load. During the evasive maneuver, the oil rig made contact with an overhead power line running along the north side of the road.
The contact with the live power line electrocuted the truck driver and caused him to be ejected from the vehicle. The 53-year-old truck driver, Shawn Kinder, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A short time later, a 48-year-old man was able to enter the truck cab and apply the parking brake without injury. The incident is still under investigation.
