The Governor of Pennsylvania has recruited the help of a nearby raceway to help keep the I-95 temporary repairs on schedule despite rain.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro predicted that the collapsed section of I-95 will see traffic flowing again by the weekend of June 23rd earlier this week, but now forecasted rain is throwing a wrench in those plans.
Rain is predicted in the area every day into next week, posing a threat to the reopening timeline because crews “need 12 hours of dry weather,” to finish the project properly, Shapiro said to Penn Live Patriot News.
Because of the impending storms, Shapiro called on Pocono Raceway to lend a hand in the form of their giant race track dryer.
“[Pocono Raceway is] bringing their jet dryer to Philly to help dry this section of I-95 and keep us on schedule,” Shapiro said.
The dryer is a Chevy Silverado with a helicopter turbine retrofitted into the truck bed. Pocono Raceway management says that jet dryer operators are prepared to stay at the construction project as long as they are needed.
