A stretch of I-70 in Illinois has seen two major truck pileups in two days, according to the Teutopolis Fire Protection District.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, a multi-vehicle crash was reported on eastbound I-70 at mile marker 102 in an “ongoing construction zone” near Teutopolis.
The crash involved three semi trucks, but there was no entrapment and no major injuries.
Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating the cause of this crash.
A more serious crash occurred in the same area just a day before.
At 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, authorities responded to eastbound I-70 at mile marker 101.5 for a fiery five semi truck crash in the same construction zone.
ISP reported that a semi truck crossed through a concrete barrier into the opposite lane of travel during the crash.
One person was airlifted to a hospital following this crash.
The cause of this crash also remains under investigation.
Also on I-70 in Illinois this week, a Greyhound passenger bus collided with three commercial motor vehicles on I-70 westbound near the entrance ramp to the Silver Lake Rest Area at mile marker 27 in Madison County. Three people were killed and more than a dozen injured.
