A head-scratching photo of a police cruiser blocking a runaway ramp has been shared thousands of times in trucking groups this week.
The photo is believed to have been taken on Highway 1 in Kamloops, British Columbia, and initially shared online on July 20, 2023.
In the photo, you can see an RCMP cruiser parked so that it is completely blocking the Highway 1 runaway ramp.
While police did not provide information on what led to the officer blocking the ramp, BC Highway Patrol Cpl. Mike Moore told Canadian outlet InfoTel that “runaway lanes are very important for obvious reasons. It is absolutely an offense under the BC Motor Vehicle Act to block a runaway lane” in response to an inquiry about the viral photo.
The trucking community has responded to the photo with disbelief at the officer’s lack of situational awareness. The post below has 70,000 likes and 20,000 shares.
