A truck driver is refusing to willingly return to West Virginia for a trial after being charged for a fatal wreck that forced a car off of a bridge.
The accident happened in Morgantown, West Virginia in January. The warrant for the driver’s arrest, along with a related lawsuit, was not issued until March 3rd.
According to WAJR News, a man initially believed to be the driver, Singh Sukhjinder, was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona that same week, but was released after officers realized the man was not the suspect. The real Sukhjinder was arrested several days later in Fontana, California.
Now, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office says that Sukhjinder has refused to waive his extradition for the negligent homicide charge. This means that Sukhjinder will not willingly return to West Virginia for trial, and will only return once a Governor’s warrant has been issued by the governor of California, Gavin Newsom.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office said it is “committed to ensuring justice is served and will provide further updates as this process progresses.”
