A truck driver of more than 40 years outlines the advantages and disadvantages of a life spent in a semi truck.

In the fuel pump interview (a format that seems to be rising in popularity), the truck driver begins with the advantages of trucking, which include always being able to find a job (if you’re good at it), and always being encouraged to make as much money for yourself as you can.

The driver then outlines the disadvantages in trucking, which he condenses into one easily digestible statement: “Three divorces, and life is extremely long.”

“Closest thing to being in prison,” he says. “Except he’s got a bathroom. You don’t.”

“If I had to do it all over again,” he says, “I wouldn’t get in the dang truck.”

The trucker goes on to say the most he ever made in a year was $360,000 on a dedicated route, driving team with his ex-wife as an owner operator. Now, he says he makes about $78,000 a year. And of course he mentions the camaraderie of truckers back 25 years ago that seems to have disappeared now.

Watch the interview below and see if you agree with this driver’s points.
