The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) has released the identities of eight people killed in a massive pileup on I-70 in March 2025.
On Monday, April 14, KHP released a report naming the eight people killed in a March 14 pileup that occurred near Goodland, Kansas.

See below for the identities of the crash victims:

- Carlos Arzate, 48, Oklahoma
- Manuel Alarcon, 57, Kansas
- Stephanie Purcell, 61, Indiana

The report also provided details on the progress of the investigation into the pileup.
Troopers say that at 3:22 p.m. on March 14, KHP responded to a multi-vehicle, mass-casualty crash on I-70 between mile markers 28.1 and 28.3 in eastern Sherman County, about 9 miles east of Goodland.
KHP said that a total of 71 vehicles collided in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-70.
Beyond the eight fatalities, 46 other people were hospitalized with injuries.
“Multiple motor vehicle collision reports will be completed to document and separate the collisions that occurred within the event. Investigators believe the separate collisions occurred between the times of approximately 3:20pm – 3:35pm (CDT). Due to the extreme circumstances the exact sequence of events is currently under investigation,” KHP said in the April 14 report.
Following the crash, Goodland Fire Chief Brian James said, “I must say yesterday was the toughest and most emotional draining experience in my 22 years of being in the fire service. Trying to manage multiple agencies, over thirty patients, triaging patients, working over 55 vehicles, fighting the wind with dirt so bad you can’t see over 50 to 100 feet, and trying to keep my crews and myself safe was just something to process. I don’t think people realize the dedication these men and women give to make this community safe and secure.”
