Canadian police are seeking a semi truck driver hauling heavy equipment who they say struck several overpasses without stopping on Thursday morning.

At 10:39 a.m. on May 1, police received several reports of a red tractor trailer hauling an excavator that struck four overpasses on Highway 403 in Brantford, Ontario.

Overpasses were hit at Tollgate Road, Paris Road, Ewing Drive and King George Road, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Police are asking anyone who was traveling through the area at that time who may have witnessed this incident or has dash cam footage, to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Canadian transportation officials have been cracking down on overpass strikes caused by overheight commercial vehicles in B.C. recently. In March 2024, the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure announced changes to the Commercial Transport Act (CTA) to allow fines of up to $100,000 for an overpass strike with a commercial vehicle. The fine can also come with up to 18 months in prison upon conviction for violations.
