A truck driver was trapped inside of his cab due to an “active electrical hazard” after crashing through a Starbucks store in California early on Wednesday morning.

The accident happened at the Starbucks on North Coast Highway near state Route 76 just before 4:45 a.m on Wednesday, May 7th.

According to San Diego Union Tribune, the truck driver suffered a medical event behind the wheel, causing him to run a red light before crashing through the wall of the business. The building sustained significant damage, and one employee was hurt.

The truck driver was initially trapped inside of the truck due to an “active electrical hazard” preventing first responders from reaching him safely. Once power was cut to the building, rescue teams were able to pull the driver out.

Both the truck driver and the Starbucks employee were not seriously injured, but were both transported to a hospital for care.

“We are grateful that no serious injuries occurred, considering the scale of the incident. The coordinated efforts of our crews, the Oceanside Police Department, and SDG&E ensured a rapid and safe response,” the department said in a news release.

The Starbucks building is currently considered to be unsafe pending a structural evaluation.
