A heavy wrecker towing a big rig crashed into a line of cars, causing a ‘mass casualty’ event in El Paso on Thursday morning. 

The accident happened just before 6:21 a.m. on North Desert Boulevard and Spur 16 at Talbot in El Paso, Texas. 

According to KFOX14, a heavy wrecker was towing a semi truck when the wrecker driver was unable to stop for traffic, causing a collision with multiple other vehicles. The heavy wrecker then caught fire. A total of 11 vehicles were involved in the crash. 

One person was killed in the crash, and 8 others were transported to a hospital. Video of the accident shows multiple cars severely damaged, and a large fiery blaze that could be seen from behind a nearby building. ABC 7 reports that El Paso Fire has called the accident a “mass casualty incident.”

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. No further information has been released.
