This week, troopers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently responded to a potentially dangerous log truck in Angels Camp.

On May 13, 2025, troopers with CHP’s Valley Division responded to a request for assistance from the Angels Camp Police Department “regarding a log truck that appeared to be dangerously overweight.”

“After a thorough inspection, our officer discovered the vehicle was over 8,000 pounds over its legal gross weight, and more than 15,000 pounds overweight on the rear axles. The truck was leaning significantly to one side, posing a serious risk to public safety and roadway integrity,” CHP said.

Troopers say that the log truck was “placed out of service on the spot.”

“This is a powerful reminder of why commercial vehicle enforcement matters. Overweight trucks can cause catastrophic collisions and long-term damage to our roads. By catching this one in time, our officer may have prevented a tragedy. Our mission is simple: keep the roads safe—for everyone,” troopers said.
