A mechanic for a trucking company in West Texas was arrested for murder after shooting another man during a night of drinking on company property.

The shooting happened on Sunday, May 18th at the Wild West Trucking yard on County Road 401 in Pecos, Texas.

According to Beaumont Enterprise, Salvador Cervantes-Ortiz works as a diesel mechanic for Wild West Trucking, and lives in an RV parked on company property. On Sunday, Cervantes-Ortiz was drinking with a group of other people outside of the RV. At some point, he retrieved a .380 caliber handgun from inside the RV.

Witnesses say Cervantes-Ortiz then loaded a magazine into the handgun and racked a bullet into the chamber. He then aimed the firearm at 36-year-old Jose Marin-Ramos and shot him, killing him instantly.

Cervantes-Ortiz then fled the scene, but returned to the scene after being contacted by other Wild West Trucking employees and witnesses to the crime. He then turned himself in to police without incident.

Cervantes-Ortiz was booked into Reeves County Jail and charged with first-degree felony murder. His bond was set at $1 million, and ICE has placed an immigration detainer.

Police say the shooting was an isolated incident and not related to any gang activity or affiliation. Both Cervantes-Ortiz and Marin-Ramos are from Mexico.
