The Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) released results from the International Roadcheck inspection campaign carried out in the Permian Basin last week.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Roadcheck inspection effort took place May 13 — 15 throughout North America.

On May 22, TXDPS’s West Texas Division released results from the Roadcheck campaign in Andrews, Ector, Howard, Martin, Midland, and Ward Counties.

As a result of their dedication in making the roadways throughout the Permian Basin safer and removing vehicles and drivers operating in an unsafe manner and/or an out-of-service condition, the following are the results of the operation:

  • Total CMV Inspections: 443
  • Total Violations: 1309
  • Total Vehicles Placed Out-Of-Service: 168 (38%)
  • Total Drivers Placed Out-Of-Service: 19 (4%)
  • Total CVSA Decals Issued: 60

These are among the earliest Roadcheck 2025 results yet released. During Roadcheck 2024, the total overall vehicle out-of-service rate was 23%, and the driver out-of-service rate was 4.8%.

Participating agencies include Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Troopers, Level I certified Highway Patrol Troopers, and Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program officers from the Midland Police Department and Odessa Police Department, Ector County Sherriff’s Office, and the Ward County Sheriff’s office.
