Daimler Trucks North America will recall thousands of trucks due to a battery issue that could lead to a vehicle fire.

Daimler will recall certain 2020-2026 Western Star 49X and 2021-2026 Western Star 47X trucks for a battery installation issue, according to May 20, 2025, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents.

A stud connecting the battery to the starter at the frame rail may have been incorrectly installed, which can cause a short circuit, which in turn could lead to a fire.

The total number of trucks affected by the recall is 21,560.

A remedy for the defect is currently under development.

Daimler has not yet provided a schedule for owner notification.
