A police officer flipped the script on an old school driver and let him choose his own punishment for using the third lane. 

This older video has made the rounds on the internet before, but is cropping up again, and is still just as charming. 

In the video, the truck driver immediately acknowledges why he was pulled over, and goes on to explain that he only used the third lane to avoid colliding with a pickup truck that kept pulling out in front of him. The truck driver is sheepish throughout the entire explanation, almost stopping a few times for fear it sounds like a bad excuse. 

“He was… You know they do it… Never mind. I done it,” the driver says to the officer. 

“Go ahead and plead your case,” the officer assures the trucker. 

“Well what do you think I oughta do to ya?” the officer asks. The trucker seems to think he’s being messed with, but the officer doubles down, insisting he choose his own punishment. 

“You’re the police. I’m the truck driver,” the officer says again. 

“I’d let you go,” the driver says. 

“Okay. Tell ya to never do it again. Would that be fair?” the officer agrees. 

The truck driver gets flustered, but eventually is let go with a warning, as per his own decision.
