The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) announced a toll increase that will go into effect at the start of 2026.

At a July 1 meeting, PTC members approved a 4% toll increase that will go into effect on January 4, 2026.

On the mainline Pennsylvania Turnpike and on the Northeast Extension where tolls are calculated per segment and distance traveled, the per mile rate increases from $.07 to $.073 and the segment fee from $1.09 to $1.13.

Turnpike officials noted that “the increase of 4% is the lowest rate increase since 2014.” Tolls increased by 5% in January 2025.

The PTC points to legislation passed in 2007 that requires the PTC to fund state transportation projects. Since 2008, the PTC has contributed $8 billion to Pennsylvania transportation and infrastructure.

In June, PTC crews started work to remove tollbooths from the Turnpike as part of the system’s transition to Open Road Tolling only.
