Police say that a truck driver was “laughing about it as he drove away” from the site of a fatal road rage incident with another semi truck.
The incident happened on the evening of June 22nd. The truck driver surrendered to police on Tuesday, July 1st for the New Jersey Turnpike incident.
According to NJ News, through obtained dash came footage and witness testimony, 41-year-old truck driver Joseph M. Nyandwaro “was observed intentionally crashing into the victim’s tractor trailer, ramming him into the left concrete barrier, and laughing about it as he drove away.”
The crash sent the second tractor trailer, driven by 40-year-old Osman Aden, into a concrete barrier. Aden’s truck then crossed the roadway and hit several trees. He died as a result of his injuries.
Nyandwaro reportedly exited the New Jersey Turnpike at Interchange 2 , then returned to the Turnpike at Interchange 18W around 90 minutes later.
Police have since obtained dash cam footage from both tractor trailer’s confirming the series of events. The footage also showed Nyanwaro laughing about the incident. It is unclear if he knew Aden had been killed at the time of the dash camm footage. Police also found remnants of Aden’s paint color on Nyandwaro’s truck. Nyandwaro is accused of using duct tae and cleaning solution to remove evidence of the incident.
Nyandwaro is being held in jail and is charged with second-degree counts of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and fourth-degree tampering with evidence.
