Police in New York State recently arrested a trucking company employee who is accused of taking part in a years-long fuel card fraud scheme.

New York resident John C. Bowman, 36, has been charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, according to a July 14 news release from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

CCSO was contacted on May 7, 2025, by the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office, located in Pennsylvania, for assistance with an investigation into a possible stolen fuel card from Moore Trucking that had been used in Chemung County, New York.

Police say that the subsequent investigation showed that Bowman, an employee of Moore Trucking, “had used the company fuel card to make numerous personal fuel purchases from July 2020 through May 2025, at multiple locations throughout Chemung County.”

The fraudulent fuel purchases total $15,778, CCSO said.

Bowman was arrested and released after he was arraigned in the Town of Horseheads Court. He is due back in court at a later date.
