Northbound I-5 was shut down for about eight hours after a semi truck overturned and spilled a load of industrial pipes across the highway early on Thursday morning.
The accident happened on July 17th at around 2:44 p.m. north of the Bridge Bay exit on Northbound I-5 near Redding, California.
According to ABC 7, the flatbed semi truck overturned, causing more than 50 large, industrial pipes to scatter across the roadway, each approximately 20 feet long and 8 inches wide. No injuries were reported, but the accident did require a significant cleanup response.
Two trucks, a front loader, and more responded to the scene, closing northbound I-5 completely. Some first responders had to arrive at the crash site on foot due to extensive traffic jams. The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans worked together to allow traffic to pass through sections of highway between Mountain Gate and Bridge Bay using a “round robin” method.
The roadway was reopened at about 10:30 a.m. The cause of the crash has still not been released.
