A box truck driver who lost control of their brakes was forced to use a truck arrestor along Teton Pass on Thursday, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).
According to WYDOT, a box truck traveling on WYO 22/Teton Pass lost its brakes on July 17, 2025.
The box truck driver utilized WYDOT’s catchnet truck arrestor system, using four of the catchnets before coming to a stop.

The driver suffered only minor injuries, officials say.
The catchnet cable truck arrestor uses a series of 8 to 10 cable nets that span across a long, narrow ramp adjacent to the highway to stop runaway vehicles.
“The truck arrestor system, sometimes referred to as a “Catchnet” system, works similarly to the way a jet plane is stopped on an aircraft carrier. The arrestor employs a system of cables and canisters of energy absorbing tape that expand to absorb the speed and force of the truck. The design allows less distance to catch a vehicle and allows placement where typical runaway ramp would not, preventing trucks from having to cross head on traffic to utilize the system,” WYDOT said.
In the video below, you can watch the Teton Pass truck arrestor system in action during a WYDOT test that took place in the summer of 2021. WYDOT used a 58,000-pound sand truck traveling at speeds of 60 m.p.h. to check upgrades to the truck arrestor system.
