Transportation officials in Missouri are asking drivers to plan ahead for a major weekend interstate closure.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close a portion of I-70 in Kansas City over the weekend to allow for the demolition of the Blue Ridge Blvd. Bridge that passes over the interstate.

The closure will begin at 2 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, and last through the weekend until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 5. Lane closures will start at 2 a.m. June 3, with both directions of I-70 completely closed by 4 a.m. on June 3.

During the weekend closure, eastbound I-70 will be closed between between I-435 and Noland Road. The detour for eastbound I-70 will be southbound I-435 to eastbound I-470.

Westbound I-70 will be closed between I-470 and Blue Ridge Blvd. The detour for westbound I-70 will be southbound I-470 to northbound I-435.

After the interstate reopens on Monday, drivers should still expect lane closures, ramp closures, and bridge work on eastbound I-70 through the end of 2023.
