State and Military police are working to enforce travel bans in New York after a deadly snowstorm buried the area.
The recent snowstorm in Buffalo is being referred to as the ‘deadliest storm in at least two generations’ by AP News. Washington Post reports that at least 28 people have been found dead in their unheated cars, homes, and even in snowbanks.
As much as 49 inches of snow had fallen in the area as of Monday, December 26th, and around 2 more inches are expected by the end of Tuesday, December 27th.
Because of the treacherous conditions, a travel ban has been placed on major roadways, and police will be stationed at entrances to the city of Buffalo and at major intersections to enforce the ban.
“Too many people are ignoring the ban,” said County Executive Mark Poloncarz. The following roadways are shut down:
While temperatures are predicted to warm up and melt the snow later in the week, officials are concerned about potential flooding due to sudden snowmelt.
