The national average price of diesel dropped 5.9 cents to $4.537 in its seventh straight decline, according to Energy Information Administration data on Dec. 26.

Highlights

  • The price of diesel has fallen 79.6 cents on average since it cost $5.333 a gallon on Nov. 7.
  • Diesel now costs 92.2 cents a gallon more on average than it did at this time a year ago.
  • The average price dropped in all 10 regions in EIA’s weekly survey.  The biggest drop was 11.1 cents a gallon in both the West Coast minus California and New England. The slightest decline was 3 cents in the Central Atlantic.
