A truck driver is facing multiple felony charges after getting distracted while driving and causing a deadly wreck last summer.

The accident happened back in June 2022, and resulted in two deaths and left five injured. A plea agreement for 27-year-old truck driver Chasen Thompson was accepted in court this week.

According to WNDU News, the crash happened near South Bend, Indiana on the Indiana Toll Road near a construction zone in slowed traffic. Thompson failed to slow for the traffic and caused a chain reaction crash that caused at least one car to catch fire.

Following the wreck, Thompson told officers that he was reaching down to adjust his radio when he struck the slowed vehicles. He then agreed to a blood draw, and tested positive for THC.

Details surrounding the recent plea deal are not known. There is a sentencing hearing scheduled for September 1st.
