The California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Bakersfield Division recently thanked a group of truckers who volunteered to help a person experiencing a mental health crisis.
The incident occurred April 17 on the Lerdo Highway over SR-99 in the Shafter area.
According to CHP, a person had crossed over the guardrail and was standing over the freeway lanes when officers arrived at the scene.
“We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the truckers and motorists in RV’s who volunteered to park across the freeway, shoulder to shoulder, under the subject, to shorten the drop. Your selfless actions assisted in our negotiating with the subject and bringing the incident to a peaceful and safe resolution,” CHP said.
CHP said that the freeway was shut down for about an hour.
“Kindness prevails,” CHP said.
