Just days after one truck driver became stuck on the Smugglers Notch segment of Vermont Route 108 in Cambridge, Vermont, a second truck driver was caught and forced to back out of the Notch.
On the afternoon of July 4, Vermont State Police (VSP) received reports of a tractor trailer attempting to use Smugglers Notch.
VSP located the truck and assisted with backing the vehicle out of the Notch before it became stuck.
The truck driver, California resident Byambadorj Avirmed, told VSP that “he observed all the posted signs but continued anyways.”
Avirmed was cited for operating a tractor trailer through Smugglers Notch.
On July 2, truck driver Yusnier Anuez, 36, of Florida City, Florida, also used the Notch.
“Anuez advised he ignored several signs that are posted stating tractor trailers are prohibited, as he was following his GPS. Multiple bystanders attempted to stop Anuez from entering the Notch, however he continued,” VSP said in an incident report.
The roadway was closed for several hours until the stuck truck was removed with help from a tow truck.
VSP says that Anuez was issued tickets with a fine amount totaling $3,544.00.
Each year, several semi trucks become stuck in the Notch after it opens for the season in the spring in spite of signs warning that trucks are not allowed.
