A truck driver was arrested on Wednesday following a police pursuit on I-40 near Atkins, Arkansas.

The incident occurred in Pope County, Arkansas, according to KARK.

Arkansas State Police say that a trooper was pulling over a car on I-40 when he was reportedly nearly struck by a truck.

The trooper attempted to perform a traffic stop on the semi truck, but the truck driver refused to pull off the interstate.

Officers used stop sticks to try to disable the truck, but police say that the driver continued the pursuit with damaged front tires.

After leading police on a chase for 45 miles, the truck driver stopped but refused to exit the vehicle.

The driver was eventually convinced to get out of the truck and taken into police custody without further incident.

The truck driver, later identified as Florida resident Birotte Charamant, 44, was booked into Pope County Jail on an aggravated assault charge.
