A man was recently arrested and charged in Memphis after allegedly illegally towing and robbing a semi truck driver at a truck stop.
The incident began shortly after midnight on July 6 at a truck stop near the airport in Memphis, according to a report from WREG.
The truck driver later told police that two males approached him and then attached his Kenworth truck to a tow truck.
The two men told the truck driver to pay $272 through the S Line Truck Parking app advertised on a sign on a nearby pole.
After the driver paid, he reported that the two men shoved him, knocked his phone out of his hand, and left with the Kenworth.
The truck driver told police that he had paid the $272 and that he was also asked to pay $3000 to the A1 tow yard in order to get his truck back.
The truck driver was able to use video from his truck to identify Michael Williams and the other unnamed suspect.
Shelby County Jail records indicate that Williams was charged with robbery and held on a $60,000 bond. It isn’t clear whether the other suspect has been arrested or charged.
