A truck driver is in critical condition after a flatbed truck veered off a roadway and into a nearby home in Massachusetts.

The accident occurred at 9:27 a.m. off of Hartford Avenue and Nason Street in Bellingham, Massachusetts.

According to WWLP 22, a flatbed truck hauling a large piece of heavy construction equipment veered off the road, drove through a yard, and came to a stop against the side of a house.

“The communications center received multiple 911 calls reporting a tractor-trailer into a house. At that time, appropriate resources were dispatched, both police and fire. Upon our arrival of both police and fire, we found that a tractor-trailer had gone through the back side of the house,” said Bellingham Fire Chief Bill Miller.

“He was coming down from the looks at a preliminary coming from Hopedale, coming towards Bellingham. So, he would be heading east on Hartford Avenue,” said Bellingham Police Chief Ken Fitzgerald.

The incident is still under investigation, but police say speed was likely not a factor.

“So, I was just sitting on my porch, and all sudden, I heard this loud truck, and I looked up, and it came flying through the front yard, took out my fence, went across the street and literally into that neighbor’s yard,” neighbor Eric Banks said.

The truck driver was flown to a hospital in critical condition. There was a dog in the truck at the time of the crash which was unhurt. The dog is in the care of animal control. No updates on the health of the truck driver were available.
