Daimler Truck AG announced Aug. 6 that Chief Financial Officer Jochen Goetz has died. Goetz, a 36-year veteran of the company, died “suddenly and unexpectedly” on Aug. 5 as a result of a “tragic accident,” the company said.

Goetz was “decisively responsible” for Daimler Truck’s spinoff from its former parent company, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, in December 2021, the announcement said. During a management career that stretched back to 2001, Goetz held financial posts with increasing responsibility across Daimler’s Unimog, Mercedes-Benz car and truck divisions, truck powertrains and as director of finance for North American operations with Daimler Truck North America. DTNA is based in Portland, Ore.

Daimler Truck CEO Martin Daum said, “The death of Jochen Goetz is a tremendous loss for Daimler Truck, both personally and professionally. I have known Jochen Goetz for more than 20 years and have always worked with him in various functions in an excellent manner. Jochen Goetz was Daimler Truck with heart and soul.”

Goetz in July joined Daum at an investor meeting hosted by Daimler in Boston.

Goetz, who was 52, is survived by a wife and two children.
