A bicyclist is dead after crashing into the back of a semi truck while riding downhill in Minneapolis late last week.

The incident occurred on August 4th in Hennepin County, Minnesota at about 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of St. Anthony Parkway and California Avenue Northeast.

Investigators say that 59-year-old Timothy Lee Stangel was riding his bike downhill “at a high rate of speed” and could not stop. Stangel then crashed into the rear of a semi truck as it pulled onto the roadway, causing blunt force injuries.

Officers arrived at the scene to find Stangel on the ground. He was treated for life threatening injuries at the scene and was later transported to a nearby hospital, where he died, reported ABC 75.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed.
