Police are investigating the death of an Illinois-based trucking company owner as well as a possible arson at the company facility.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on March 5, the Crestwood Police Department (CPD) and firefighters responded to a fire at a trucking company known as ATG Truckload located at 13835 S. Kostner in Crestwood, Illinois.

After the fire was put out by firefighters, “the body of an adult male victim was located on the second floor amidst heavy smoke.”

The man was identified by Patch.com as trucking company president and owner Dane Koteski, 48.

Police launched death and arson investigations, which led to the identification of a suspect who was determined to be an employee of the trucking company.

“…the crime was quickly deemed to be an isolated event, specifically targeting the victim,” CPD said.

The investigation continued through the night of March 5 and led to the location of the suspect at a truck stop in Holland, Michigan.

The Holland Police Department coordinated an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect at 5:15 a.m. on March 6.

“Investigators are awaiting results from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The Crestwood Police Department and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, in cooperation with Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, are continuing the investigation as they seek extradition of the suspect back to Illinois,” said CPD in a news release.

A GoFundMe for Koteski has already raised over $55,000.
