Two people killed in a snowy pileup that burned for 20 hours last week have been identified by investigators.
The massive crash happened on Thursday, March 13th on westbound Interstate 40 near Williams, Arizona. The two victims of the crash were identified as Juan Beltran and Evelyn Davis on Sunday, March 16th.
According to AZ Family, the wreck started with a jacknifed semi truck on the ice and snow covered interstate. That truck then blocked I-40, causing multiple semi trucks and passenger vehicles to crash into it, which sparked a fire. The fire then burned through the pile up for 20 hours as crews worked to quench the blaze and clear the scene.
A total of 22 vehicles and 36 people were involved in the crash. The incident is still under investigation, and the freeway is being evaluated for damage by ADOT engineers.
“The investigation is active and will take time to complete due to the number of involved vehicles and people, and by the extensive fire damage,” the Highway Patrol Northern Regional Vehicular Crimes Unit said in a statement.
