The national average price for a gallon of diesel slipped 3.3 cents to $3.549, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data released March 17.

The decrease is the third in as many weeks, totaling 14.8 cents a gallon. That comes on the heels of four consecutive increases that totaled 3.8 cents.

A gallon of trucking’s main fuel now costs 47.9 cents less than it did at this time in 2024.

Regional Trends

The West Coast showed the steepest weekly drop of the five PADD districts at 4 cents a gallon, and the West Coast less California had the largest overall at 5.3 cents. The smallest decrease was a penny in the Lower Atlantic, a subregion of the East Coast.

Gasoline Update

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline dipped 1.1 cents to $3.058 a gallon. That’s 39.5 cents less than it cost at this time a year ago.
