The death of a dump truck driver found dead behind a dumpster is being investigated in relation to a single-vehicle crash.
39-year-old Keith Siegel was found dead behind a dumpster on Friday night, March 21st in Hanna City, Illinois after a wreck involving his dump truck.
According to 25 News, officers were called to a crash scene at about 10:45 p.m. in the 200 block of N. Third Street and found a dump truck in a ditch. Witnesses to the crash say they saw the dump truck driver run from the crash on foot and did not see him return.
Several hours later, deputies found a man unresponsive and not breathing behind a dumpster in the 12900 block of West Farmington Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say that witness testimony and surveillance footage have led them to believe that Siegel possibly fell off of a retaining wall after climbing it as he fled the scene of the crash. Officers say he may have hit his head.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Siegel. His death is still under investigation. It is unclear why he fled the crash scene in the first place.
