(Descartes and 3GTMS)
Descartes Systems Group bought transportation management solutions specialist 3GTMS for $115 million, the logistics software provider said March 25.
The deal is the 32nd acquisition by Waterloo, Ontario-headquartered Descartes since 2016.
Shippers, third-party logistics providers and freight brokers can use Columbus, Ohio-based 3GTMS’ products for automating planning, rating, consolidation and routing of over-the-road shipments.
“3G’s solution footprint for freight in North America is highly complementary, bringing strong domestic transportation management functionality for truckload, less-than-truckload and parcel modes,” said Descartes Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Roszko.
“The acquisition also expands our carrier reach in North America, including the addition of a network of [application programming interface]-integrated LTL carriers. When combined with Descartes’ existing transportation management tools and our Global Logistics Network, we see a tremendous opportunity to deliver even more value to our combined customer base,” Roszko added.
Prior to the 3GTMS deal, Descartes’ last acquisition was MyCarrierPortal, a U.S.-based provider of carrier onboarding and risk monitoring services for the trucking industry.
MCP’s platform helps freight brokers and shippers screen truck carriers for insurance compliance and safety standards, and offers monitoring to ensure carriers remain compliant.
Descartes paid $24 million upfront for MCP, with an additional $6 million contingent on performance over the next two years.
The MCP acquisition targets growing concerns over carrier fraud and cargo theft, Descartes said in September 2024.
