The man found partially buried at a landfill earlier this month has been identified as a lifelong trucker with over a million miles under his belt.
63-year-old Ray Schwegler was scheduled to make a delivery to the landfill at 225th Avenue Northwest and Highway 169 on March 12th when employees at the landfill found his truck unoccupied.
According to HomeTownSource News, employees found it unusual that the truck was empty and unoccupied, so they contacted police to report a missing person. When police responded, they discovered Schwegler partially buried in the landfill.
No foul play is suspected, but the incident is still under investigation, and the events that led up to Schwegler’s death are still unclear.
“Safety is paramount to Waste Management. The incident that took place is currently under investigation, and any related information will be released by the authorities. The WM team extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Taryn Nance, an area communications manager for Waste Management, who operates the landfill.
“Ray was a truck driver all of his adult life and drove over a million miles. He was the happiest when he was behind the wheel of a vehicle putting on miles,” his obituary reads.
