A truck driver wanted in connection with a previous shooting incident was killed in an officer-involved shooting at a truck stop in Carroll County, Virginia.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on March 28, 2025, police responded to a shooting on southbound I-85 at mile marker 131 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The shooting involved two tractor trailer drivers. One of the drivers was identified as Edmond Johnson, 29, of Louisiana. The other truck driver was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

According to the Greensboro Police Department (GPD), after the I-85 shooting, Johnson fled the scene and drove to Carroll County, Virginia.

Virginia State Police described the circumstances leading to a shootout with police at a Love’s truck stop in Carroll County:

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Love’s Truck Stop in the Lamsburg area off Interstate 77, Exit 1, in Carroll County after receiving information that a suspect who was wanted in Maryland, and also reportedly involved in a shooting in Greensboro, North Carolina, was at the truck stop. The suspect was located in a tractor-trailer truck. When he eventually exited the tractor-trailer, he exchanged gunfire with the deputies. During the gunfire exchange, two deputies were shot as well as the suspect.

Johnson died from injuries sustained during the shooting.

The two Carroll County deputies were hospitalized and are listed in stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation.
