The national average diesel price bumped up 2.5 cents to $3.592 a gallon, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data released March 31.

The increase is the second straight, totaling 4.3 cents after three consecutive declines shed 14.8 cents from the price.

A gallon of diesel now costs 40.4 cents less that it did at this time a year ago.

Regional Trends

The average price for a gallon of diesel increased in all five PADD districts, with 5.7 in the Rocky Mountain district being the biggest gain. The West Coast less California subdistrict showed the same increase.

The New England and Central Atlantic East Coast subdistricts each showed declines of less than a half-cent.
