Mother Nature’s April Fools’ joke this year came in the form of a serious snowstorm in the west.
Snowfall in the Truckee, California area caused a series of semi truck spinouts and temporary road closures on Monday, March 31st, with the snowfall continuing into Tuesday.
The winter storm is expected to reach all the way to the Great Lakes region by Thursday, April 3rd. Reno, Nevada was under a winter storm warning until late Monday evening, and Telluride, Colorado has had approximately 3 inches of snowfall since Monday night.
As of 12:45 p.m. PST, R2 chain restrictions were in effect on Interstate 80 eastbound from Alta to the Nevada state line, and on I-80 westbound from the Nevada state line to Colfax. Traffic was being held on I-80 eastbound at Alta due to multiple spin outs on Donner Summit.
