A man is in police custody following a Tuesday shooting spree that injured at least three people, including a semi truck driver.
Las Vegas resident Antonio Chaidez, 35, was arrested on April 1 in connection with multiple shootings in Blue Diamond, Nevada; Jean, Nevada; and Baker, California, according to the Barstow Sheriff’s Department (BSD) out of California.
At 2:36 a.m. on April 1, BSD responded to an area off of Cima Road, in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County, where a man sleeping in his car had been shot.
“A short time later, at about 2:46 a.m., deputies responded to a shooting at the Chevron gas station on Baker Boulevard [in Baker, California]. When they arrived, they learned the suspect, later identified as Antonio Chaidez, who was driving a black truck, fired multiple rounds inside the gas station through a back door, striking the store clerk. Chaidez fired additional rounds into two parked semi-trucks near the property, striking one of the drivers, and fled the location,” BSD said.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) located the black truck and initiated a pursuit southbound on the I-15 Freeway near Afton Road.
BSD and CHP conducted a felony traffic stop off of Harvard Road, and Chaidez was arrested without incident.
Investigators later learned that Chaidez was allegedly involved in shootings in Nevada.
At least three people, including a truck driver, have been hospitalized with injuries.
The shootings are being investigated as attempted homicides.
This is a developing story.
