Kenan Advantage Group continued to expand its bulk transportation capabilities March 31 with the acquisition of liquid bulk carrier M.C. Tank Transport Inc.
M.C. Tank Transport operates eight terminal locations throughout the Southeast and Midwest with its headquarters in West Chester, Ohio. It also has three container depots based on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) guidelines. It specializes in delivering and storing materials like caustic soda, sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid.
“This acquisition marks a key milestone in KAG’s continued growth and solidifies our commitment to delivering innovative, specialized solutions to our chemical customers,” KAG CEO Charlie DeLacey said. “By combining the strengths of M.C. Tank with our existing fleet and network, we are enhancing our capabilities to offer not only premier chemical transportation but also ISO container storage, transport and related services to meet the evolving demands of our customers’ supply chains.”
KAG has announced other acquisitions over the past year with many of them focused on dry bulk shipments, first entering that space with the purchase of Northern Dry Bulk in February 2024. Other acquisitions include recently unveiled plans to buy Mobile, Ala.-based carrier Evergreen Transport.
“KAG is the perfect partner to provide M.C. Tank with the resources and know-how to expand our footprint, capabilities, technology and services,” M.C. Tank President Michael Anderson said. “We are far from done implementing our vision and accomplishing the goals we have set for our organization. We are tremendously excited for the opportunity to join the KAG team.”
KAG adds about 175 professional drivers, 70 operational and administrative members, 100 tractors and 500 trailers in the acquisition. The ISO depots also provide container services, such as storage, steaming washing and maintenance.
Kenan Advantage Group ranks No. 21 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America. Its freight brokerage arm, KAG Logistics, ranks No. 97 on the TT Top 100 list of the largest logistics companies.
